The Amerex AMEB479T 5 lbs Purple-K Fire Extinguisher w/ Aluminum Valve (Class B:C) is the preferred extinguisher for fires involving flammable and combustible liquids like gasoline, lacquers, alcohol, and oil-based paints. It uses the Purple K agent, a specially fluidized and siliconized potassium bicarbonate dry chemical that effectively stops Class B fires. It's also non-conductive, therefore safe for fires involving electrical equipment. With a UL rating of 30B:C, a single unit can fight 30 square feet of Class B fires. It's also rechargeable after discharge.

Superior firefighting performance. Purple-K agent is a potassium bicarbonate-based dry chemical with an added purple pigment to differentiate it from other dry chemical extinguishers. Purple K is proven to be at least 4 or 5 times as effective as carbon dioxide and more than twice as effective as sodium bicarbonate-based fire suppressants. This is mainly due to the higher amounts of potassium ion present in the chemical. Purple-K is non-abrasive, non-toxic, and is also compatible with most foam concentrates. 

When used, Purple-K leaves a residue that can easily be cleaned up by vacuuming. Unlike gaseous extinguishers, it is less affected by wind and also results in a moderate flare-up and minimal spread of flame. The Amerex Purple K extinguishers are safe to use from –65 °F and as high as 120 °F (–54 °C and 49 °C).

Configuration Options

The Amerex B479T Purple-K Fire Extinguisher is available in red or chrome finish. Chrome is easier to blend with the background, making it the preferred extinguisher in locations where style and aesthetics are a priority such as hotels, reception areas, modern offices, upscale restaurants, etc. However, since it’s not as easy to spot as its red counterpart, it needs to be accompanied by an easy-to-read signage.
