Overview for Fisher 43181 TW-82 Digital Line Tracer

The Fisher TW-82 Digital Line Tracer is a high-performance locator with an easy-to-use, one-button design specifically made to locate conductive pipes, cables, and electrical lines. Made by the oldest name in metal detection technologies, the Fisher TW-82 Digital Line Tracer produces accurate, repeatable results while being easy to use for any skill level.

Easy and Accurate Tracing for Any Skill Level The TW-82 Digital Line Tracer takes all the guesswork out of tracing utilities. Powering the receiver on and off, adjusting the audio signal volume, and changing the unit of measurement can all be done with a single button. The Lateral Mode which is used for detecting utility lines with weaker signals (e.g. utility lines branching off from a mainline) can also be activated in a press of a button.

Upon turning it on, you can start detecting right away. The large LCD screen shows visual cues to guide you to your target, as well as target depth, signal current, and battery condition. There are also audio signals to indicate your position relative to the utility. The audio signal volume will decrease as you move away from the utility and will increase as you get closer. Once you’re directly over the utility, it will be silent. With its ultra-fast response time, intelligent target guides, lightweight design, and one-button operation, the TW-82 Digital Line Tracer makes accurate utility tracing easy for both beginner and experienced users.

3 Tracing Methods for Any Situation The TW-82 Line Tracer can be used to trace utilities in three ways: conductive, inductive, and coupling clamp method. In the conductive method, the transmitter is used to energize the buried utility by attaching it to the conductive tracing cables. This method usually sets up the strongest magnetic field for the receiver to detect above ground.

In cases where direct physical connection to the utility is not possible, the inductive method is used wherein the utility is indirectly energized by magnetically coupling an energizing current using the transmitter. This method requires some prior knowledge of the utility’s location.

The last method, Coupling Clamp, is used when a utility is exposed but doesn’t have a direct connection for the conductive tracing cables. You can clamp the accessory coupling clamp (sold separately) around the exposed utility and use the transmitter to magnetically couple an energizing current into the utility.

Rugged Build for Tough Environments The TW-82 Digital Line Tracer is a heavy-duty, impact-resistant instrument that stands up to water jets to IP65 standards and withstands extreme temperatures of -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C). With the receiver’s batteries lasting up to 40 hours and the transmitter’s batteries running up to 160 hours of normal power mode, this utility line tracer is the ideal companion for long hours on the field.

With impressive accuracy, simple user interface, and rugged build, the TW-82 Digital Line Tracer has all the features you need for a fast and easy utility tracing in any situation.
