The Kestrel 5400FW Fire Weather Meter Pro WBGT w/ LiNK Wireless Connectivity and Vane Mount is the ultimate all-in-one weather station and heat meter for keeping firefighters safe during training and firefighting operations. It can calculate Probability of Ignition (PIG) and Fine Dead Fuel Moisture (FDFM) without the need for reference tables, and it can monitor Wet Bulb Global Temperature (WBGT) to prevent heat illnesses and injuries. You can mount it on a tripod (not included) using the included vane mount and set it to wirelessly send readings directly to your computer or mobile phone – transforming it into a stand-alone complete weather station to keep you and your crew informed, prepared, and safe on the go.
All-in-one heat safety meter and weather station. The 5400FW fire weather meter provides WBGT monitoring, the currently most preferred model for predicting human heat stress. As opposed to the heat index, WBGT measures heat stress in direct sunlight and takes into account temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle, and cloud cover (solar radiation). This feature helps prevent heat injuries during conditioning training and while working on a fire line. Aside from WBGT, the Kestrel 5400FW also displays thermal work limit (TWL), another accepted heat stress prediction tool. For both WBGT and TWL, the 5400FW has user-settable visual and audio alerts to warn users when heat levels are getting hazardous.
The 5400FW also measures the following environmental indicators: barometric pressure, altitude, wind speed, wind direction and orientation, relative humidity, heat stress index, wind chill, globe temperature, density altitude, crosswind/headwind/tailwind, dew point temperature, and station pressure (absolute pressure).
High accuracy. The Kestrel 5400FW is relied on by professional firefighters for not only precise readings but accurate ones as well. It is equipped with the most advanced sensors with impressive accuracy and incredibly low calibration drift. This meter stays accurate without the need for calibration for 5 years. Kestrel will calibrate it within that 5 years if needed. To achieve the device’s accuracy, it must sit out for around 7-10 minutes to be able to equilibrate to true atmospheric conditions. Its waterless measurement of humidity eliminates rooms for human errors commonly found in sling psychrometers.
Easy to use. Designed for a streamlined use on the field, the Kestrel 5400FW features easy, intuitive controls and a large, hi-res graphic display that is backlit for use in low light and easily readable in bright sunlight. Over 10,000 sets of time-stamped data are tracked and logged, with an on-screen graphic of history allowing you to observe environmental trends and more effectively predict fire behavior.
Wireless connectivity. The 5400FW is equipped with Bluetooth LiNK wireless connectivity that enables it to seamlessly send current and logged data and alerts directly to your computer (via a dongle) or iOS / Android mobile device up to 100’ away. LiNK also enables effortless firmware updates of the meter.
The Kestrel 5400FW float is waterproof to IP67 standards and is drop tested to MIL-STD-810G standards. Compact, rugged, and incredibly easy to use, the Kestrel 5400FW Fire Weather Meter Pro WBGT w/ LiNK Wireless Connectivity and Vane Mount is all you need to monitor heat safety and gather accurate and precise environmental data for informed fire behavior predictions.
