The SSI Locators LD-8 Leak Survey Tool is a compact and lightweight instrument for water leak detection at hydrants and fixtures. It weighs only 10 lbs total, including the sturdy hard-sided plastic carrying case with fitted foam insert. Case dimensions are 18”W x 7”D x 12”H – small enough to fit behind the seat of a pickup truck.
This leak detection tool uses contact rods attached to a piezoelectric sensor and amplifier to connect to water line fixtures so that you can listen for the sound of unwanted water flows. If your water distribution system is suffering from unexplained deficits, the LD-8 will help you find the source. Two contact rods are included with your purchase – a short 4” rod for listening at hydrants and a long 52” rod for listening at below-grade meters and valves. The 52” rod conveniently screws together from four 13” sections.
The Right Size for the Job
The amplifier is small (8.15”W x 2.4”D x 3.3”H), fitting easily into your hand. It weighs only 10.6 oz including batteries. It has a frequency range of 100Hz to 2000Hz with 55 dB amplification. Two notch filters at 150Hz and 180Hz cut down on ambient noise, such as hums from surrounding transformers and power lines. The over-the-ear stereo headphones have soft leather covers for many hours of comfortable listening. The amplifier has a 2-digit display so you can see the relative loudness of the water sounds you're hearing, making it easier to find the leak.
This water leak detector is powered by two “AA” batteries that will give you about 24 hours of operating time. Working temperature range is 25° to 130° F (-4° to 45° C).
The SSI Locators LD-8 leak survey tool comes with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
