LINE LASER LEVEL BUYER'S GUIDE

Line Lasers are ideal for projecting a straight line on a wall, floor, or ceiling and for leveling around an entire room. Some of the many applications a Line Laser Level can be used in include:

  • Wall layout
  • Point transfers from wall to ceiling
  • Wall and floor tiling
  • Finish carpentry
  • 90-degree squaring
  • Acoustic ceiling installation
  • Mounting wall decorations like pictures or paintings

Types of Line Laser Levels

Green vs. Red Beam Line Lasers

When shopping around for Line Laser Levels, you’ll notice that some Line Lasers project green beams while some have red beams. Green beams are easier to see than red beams, making them a great choice if you usually work outdoors or in brightly lit areas. Red beam lasers, however, are more affordable and can be used with most laser receivers to extend the working range, so the choice between the two depends on your budget and priorities.

Basic Line Lasers

Line Lasers are also classified according to the number of lines they project. The most basic type of Line Lasers projects one to two horizontal laser lines to help with tiling, flooring, and other applications that need a basic straight line. An example of a basic line laser level is the Johnson Level Line Laser Level Mouse which projects one laser line and the Johnson Level Heavy-Duty Flooring Laser Level which projects two lines.

Cross Line Lasers

If you need to check square references of beams, posts, and any other object, you’ll benefit from a Cross Line Laser. Cross Line Lasers project a combination of horizontal and vertical lines to help with checking square reference of beams or posts. An example is the AdirPro Cube 360 Degree Horizontal Cross Line Laser that projects one horizontal and one vertical line.

Combination Line and Point Lasers

Lastly, if you’re looking for a laser that can help you with plumbing, leveling, and squaring, a Combination Line and Point Laser is what you need. A Combination Laser Level combines a dot laser and line laser level into one convenient, multi-purpose instrument. An example is the Spectra Precision LT52R Combination Line Laser Level which projects 5 laser points and 2 laser lines.

Laser Line Level Features

Line Laser Levels are either manual or self-leveling. Self-leveling lasers are slightly more expensive but are huge time-savers. A feature you also need to look at is the working range. Line Lasers can work up to 200 feet and more when used with a laser detector. The range you need depends on the size of jobs you usually take.

You should also look at the degree to which the lines are projected. Some Line Lasers project 90-degree, 210-degree, or 360-degree lines.

Another crucial feature is the battery type and battery life. Does it run on alkaline or rechargeable batteries? Can it be used while charging, and can it be plugged in directly to a power source when all battery options have run out?

Lastly, consider the mounting options included in the package. While most Line Laser Levels are tripod-compatible, some models also come with magnetic brackets or a unique mounting base which can be useful in different situations.

When choosing a Line Laser Level, consider the applications you’re going to use it for and narrow down your choice from there. Tiger Supplies is the leading online supplier of professional-grade Line Laser Levels from top brands like Leica, Stabila, AdirPro, Johnson Level, and Bosch.
